Regal Rc51 Resonator

The Regal RC-51 Resonator is a tricone resonator guitar that builds upon the Dobro original build back in the 1920s.  The RC-51 is Regal’s attempt to perfectly recapture the voice of the original Dobro guitar, and they certainly succeed in recreating its warmth and richness.  The tone of this instrument is perfect for jazz, blues, and anything that requires a warm, rich tone.

The RC-51 uses a bell brass body that is plated with heavy nickel.  It’s polished to a mirror finish and then fitted with a traditional sand-cast T-style spider.  This is what gives the instrument its amazing sound.  The neck is made from mahogany, while the fretboard is from rosewood.  The guitar also features an adjustable truss rod, Schaller tuners, an art deco pearloid peghead overlay, and nickel-plated brass hardware.  The fingerboard is late like the guitars made back in the 30s, unlike some modern resonator instruments that typically have rounded fingerboards.

If you need a good resonator instrument, the Regal RC-51 is a solid choice.  While its list price is $849, it can often be found for $550 or so.  That’s a good price for a quality instrument.
